Rico Gholston is one of the most prolific power hitters in the history of Cloud County baseball. Gholston played for the Thunderbirds from 1988-1990, setting seven Cloud County school records in his career. Rico belted 16 home runs in 1989 and followed up with 20 home runs in 1990. These are the two highest single-season home run totals in the history of Cloud County baseball. He finished the 1990 season at Cloud County with a .452 batting average, 20 home runs, and 80 RBI’s. After Cloud County, Gholston transferred to McNeese State University. He was drafted out of McNeese State in the 19th round of the 1992 Major League Baseball Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates. Gholston finished his three-year professional career in 1994.
