Denis Grahem became the first Cloud County track athlete to receive NJCAA All American honors after finishing as the national runner-up in both the indoor and outdoor national meets in 1978. He was three-time NJCAA All-American in track and field while at Cloud County and still holds the all-time outdoor school record of 53’ 7” in the shot put set in the spring of 1978. Denis continued his track career at Eastern Kentucky University. A native of Meriden, Kansas, and a graduate of Jefferson West HS, Denis had the unique opportunity to return to CCCC as an assistant track coach and helped Mary Beyrle break the school record and become the NJCAA National Champion in the women’s shot put in 1981. Denis has taught and coached for many years in the Udall, KS school district.
