Kelli (Silvey) Kuennen, a native of Lenexa, Kansas was a softball star for Cloud County from 1995-1996. At the time of her Hall of Fame induction she still held school records for wins, innings pitched, strikeouts, and earned run average. Her career in a Thunderbird uniform was punctuated by a sophomore season that saw Kuennen finish with a 35-7 overall record and 1.46 earned run average while striking out 206 hitters in 244 innings pitched. Her efforts earned her First-Team All-Region VI and Second-Team All-American honors from the NJCAA in 1995-96. Kuennen helped Cloud County to the 1996 Region VI Championship as she pitched every inning of the Region VI Tournament and picked up five wins, including a three-hit shutout of Butler in Cloud County’s 1-0 victory in the championship game. The T-Birds would go on to earn a fourth-place finish at the national tournament. Following her graduation from Cloud County, Kuennen continued her education and playing career at Emporia State University where she’d earn Second-Team All M.I.A.A. in 1998 after posting 19 wins, a 2.41 earned run average and 69 strikeouts.
