Gene Williams, or more commonly known as “Speed” Williams, was one of the best all-around athletes in Cloud County Community College history as he competed in four sports between 1969 and 1971. Williams earned First-Team All-Conference honors as a soccer and baseball player. He helped lead the soccer program to its first Region VI playoff game in program history in 1970 and was voted the Offensive MVP by his teammates. On the baseball diamond, Williams batted .463 as a sophomore in 1971 and finished with a 3-1 overall record as a pitcher. His impressive resume of athletic accomplishments at Cloud County also includes helping the men’s basketball program to back-to-back 20 win seasons and qualifying for the NJCAA national track meet in the 100-yard dash and triple jump. Williams continued his baseball and basketball careers at Bethany College until graduation in 1973.
