A 1981 graduate of Golden Plains High School of Rexford, Kansas, Brenda was one of the great multi-sport athletes in Cloud County history. Brenda was the first women’s basketball player in school history to be named First Team NJCAA All-American in 1983. She was also named First Team All-Region VI and still holds the single-season assist record at Cloud with 255. She led the Lady Thunderbirds to a two-year record of 50-9 and the 1983 Region VI Championship. Additionally, Brenda was the 1982 Region VI Tennis Champion in both singles and doubles and led the women’s tennis team to the Region VI Championship that year. Smith is currently the president of the NJCAA Tennis Coaches Association.
