Box Score 2 The Cloud County Community College softball team split its Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) doubleheader against No. 22 Kansas City Kansas Community College on Thursday, April 16, dropping the opener 18-13 before earning a 5-3 victory in game two.
The T-Birds notched its first win over a ranked opponent under head coach
TJ Segebart and snapped a five-game losing streak to the Blue Devils. Cloud County has improved to 14-14 overall and 5-7 in KJCCC play.
Freshman pitcher
Maddie Harold's two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning gave the T-Birds a 5-3 win in the second game of the twinbill. Harold also struck out seven batters while tossing her seventh complete game of the season. Harold, the current KJCCC D2 Pitcher of the Week, currently leads the conference with 82 strikeouts and 8.01 strikeouts per seven innings pitched.
As a team, Cloud County compiled nine hits with freshmen
Allison Adams,
Brooke Lougheed and
Jaci Vonlintel finishing with two apiece. Lougheed homered and drove in two runs.
Lougheed broke a scoreless tie with a one-out solo shot in the bottom of the third inning.
The T-Birds extended their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth when Adams brought in Vonlintel with a double to center field. Adams later scored on a RBI ground out by Lougheed.
Kansas City Kansas tied things up in the top of the fifth inning. Sophomore Abryelle Hil doubled to score a pair of runs, before scoring the tying run on a RBI single by sophomore Sidney Sullivan.
After sophomore short stop
Maliyah Koster singled to center field to open the bottom of the fifth, Harold crushed the go-ahead two-run home run to left field for her team-leading eighth home run of the season.
Kansas City Kansas recorded two-out hits in both the sixth and seventh innings but failed to capitalize on the opportunities.Â
Harold allowed just one earned run, lowering her team-best ERA to 4.30. Harold is holding opposing batters to a .285 average.
Lougheed, sophomore
Berkleigh Curtis and freshman
Kadence Hall combined for nine hits and eight RBI as Cloud County dropped a tough 18-13 decision to Kansas City Kansas in game one of the doubleheader. The T-Birds used a six-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the deficit to two, but the Blue Devils answered with four runs in the top half of the seventh to seal the victory.
Lougheed launched a grand slam and freshman third baseman
Hannah Gardner hit a solo shot to left field in Cloud County's six-run inning. In four games this week, Lougheed has gone 8-for-15 at the plate with seven extra-base hits, including three home runs. She has added four doubles en route to 10 RBI and eight runs scored. Lougheed currently leads the T-Birds with a .404 batting average.
Koster and Harold added one double each, while Curtis and Hall both singled three times. Hall finished with three RBi in the game.
Sophomore catcher
Emalee Johnson added two hits and drew one of four walks in the contest.Â
Cloud County continues KJCCC play with a road trip to Independence Community College on Saturday, April 18, with first pitch slated for 1 pm.
