Box Score The Cloud County Community College women's basketball team rolled past the Colby Trojans, 64-47, at Arley Bryant Gymnasium in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) play on Saturday, February 7. The T-Birds used a dominant defensive effort and a balanced scoring attack to improve to 10-12 on the season and 6-11 in KJCCC action.
The T-Birds held the Trojans to 29.6 percent shooting from the field, marking the fourth opponent they've held below 30 percent shooting in the last six games. The 47 points scored by Colby is the lowest mark by any opponent against the T-Birds this season, and Cloud County forced 23 turnovers, turning those miscues into 18 points on the other end.
The T-Birds placed six players in the scoring column, including three in double-figures, as they controlled the game from the second quarter on.
Offense was hard to come by early for both sides, with each team struggling to find a rhythm. Cloud County led 3-0 at the first media timeout. The T-Birds pushed their lead out to five points at 7-2 before Colby closed the first quarter on an 8-5 run. Both teams combined for 16 turnovers in the first frame.
The T-Birds seized control in the second quarter. Cloud County grabbed its first double-digit lead on a triple by sophomore guard
Lauren Marron with 1:32 remaining in the opening half. The T-Birds outscored the Trojans 22-12 in the second quarter and carried a 34-22 lead into halftime.
Cloud County continued to build separation early in the third quarter, extending its lead out to 15 points. Colby controlled the glass, pulling down 11 rebounds, including four on the offensive end, helping them keep pace by getting second-chance opportunities. The T-Birds led 48-38 heading into the final period.
The T-Birds maintained control throughout the fourth quarter, pushing the lead to as many as 18 points with just under a minute remaining. Cloud County closed the game on a late 14-7 run to secure the 64-47 home victory.
Cloud County finished the afternoon shooting 47.9 percent from the field, their third best team field-goal percentage of the season and their best shooting performance since November 8, 2025. The T-Birds shot 30.0 percent from behind the arc. Cloud County dominated inside with 30 points in the paint and recorded 11 bench points.
Despite being outrebounded 39-27 and committing 19 turnovers and 18 personal fouls, the T-Birds' defensive pressure proved decisive, as Colby managed only ten points off Cloud County's turnovers.
Sophomore forward
Leila Washington scored 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting while pulling down a team-high nine rebounds. Washington also added four assists.
Sophomore guard
Lauren Marron added 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting with four made three-pointers, four rebounds and three steals.
Freshman forward
Sofija Todorovic scored all 11 points off the bench to go with three rebounds.
Freshman guard
Amanda Makela tallied eight points and four assists, while sophomore forward
Shea Wurtz finished with seven points, five rebounds and two steals.
Cloud County will look to build momentum against Coffeyville Community College on Wednesday, February 11. The T-Birds previously beat the Red Ravens, 76-68, on December 10, 2025. Tip-off is set for 5:30 pm. Coffeyville is entering the matchup at 18-6 overall and 12-6 in KJCCC play.
