Five Cloud County Women's Basketball Players Go for Double-Figures in 69-52 Win Over Fort Hays Tech Northwest

Box Score The Cloud County Community College women's basketball team was led by five players in double-figure scoring on Saturday, February 21 in their 69-52 win over Fort Hays Tech Northwest in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) play.

The T-Birds (12-14, 8-13 KJCCC) scored the first 13 points of the game and never trailed in the contest. Cloud County led 23-4 at the end of the first quarter and 41-17 at the intermission. Fort Hays Tech Northwest mounted a comeback in the third period, outscoring the T-Birds 19-8 in the frame after they forced Cloud County into nine turnovers while shooting 8-of-13 overall from the floor. The Tigers briefly brought the lead down to single-digits before Cloud County regained control over the final ten minutes to win the game by a final score of 69-52.

Starters Shea Wurtz, Leila Washington, Camiah Muldrow, Lauren Marron and Amanda Makela led the way for Cloud County, combining for 61 of the 69 points scored. Wurtz led the way with her seventh double-double performance of the season, finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Washington collected 13 points, five rebounds and four assists before fouling out of the contest. Muldrow tallied 12 points, seven rebounds and four assists. Makela added 11 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals, while Marron also had 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting, including three triples, to go with five rebounds before exiting the game due to injury.

The T-Birds shot 22-of-55 (40.0 percent) from the field in the win and were 5-of-22 (22.7 percent) from long-range. Cloud County also finished the game 20-of-24 (83.3 percent) from the free-throw line. The T-Birds collected 15 assists as a team, their most since January 17, and outrebounded the Tigers by a 43-27 margin.

Fort Hays Tech Northwest shot 20-of-56 (35.7 percent) from the floor, 6-of-30 (20.0 percent) from distance, and 6-of-7 (85.7 percent) from the foul line.

The victory marked Cloud County's seventh straight win over Fort Hays Tech Northwest, dating back to 2023.

Cloud County will host its final home game of the regular season on Wednesday, February 25, welcoming Garden City Community College to Arley Bryant Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 pm.
