Cloud County Women's Basketball Team Continues KJCCC Play with Weekend Trip to Garden City

The Cloud County Community College women's basketball is headed to Garden City, Kansas on Saturday, January 10 for a Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) matchup against Garden City at Conestoga Arena.

Tipoff is set for 2 pm. The game will be streamed live by the Southwest Kansas Sports Network.

Cloud County (7-7, 3-6 KJCCC) has won back-to-back contests following their 80-73 comeback victory on the road over Fort Hays Tech Northwest on January 7. The T-Birds were down by as many as 13 points in the first half. Four T-Birds had double-digits, led by freshman guard Camiah Muldrow who had 32 points in 32 minutes of action. Muldrow shot 8-of-19 from the field, 3-of-5 from deep and 13-of-20 from the foul line. Freshman guard Amanda Makela had 12 points, all coming in the second-half. Makela was a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe. Sophomore forward Shea Wurtz tallied her fifth double-double of the season with 10 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Wurtz went 4-of-5 from the line. Sophomore forward Leila Washington had 10 points and five rebounds in 16 minutes of play before fouling out of the contest. Freshman forward Sofija Todorovic came off the bench for nine points and nine rebounds. Freshman guard Jelena Jankovic added four points and two steals, while freshman guard Marilyn Soeken finished with three points and six rebounds.

Garden City (11-3, 6-3 KJCCC) enters Saturday's contest following a 67-60 road loss to No. 1 Dodge City Community College on January 7. The Broncbusters opened the game on a 14–0 run to stun the undefeated Conquistadors in the opening minutes. Garden City carried a 16-13 lead into the second quarter before Dodge City found their rhythm offensively, grabbing a five point lead at halftime. The Broncbusters again briefly led midway through the third quarter before Dodge City regained control and hung on for the win. Freshman point guard Marshea Fisher paced Garden City with a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds, adding six assists and three steals. Freshman wing Caryle Fortas finished with 14 points, while freshman guard London Turner chipped in eight points and six rebounds.

Muldrow's 32 points against Fort Hays Tech Northwest marks the second time this season she has scored 30 points or more for the T-Birds. The freshman from Fairburn, Georgia is the KJCCC's No. 2 leading scorer at 20.1 points per game. Muldrow also ranks third in the conference in free-throw percentage at 82.5 percent, and is sixth in the conference in assists at 3.9 assists per contest.

Washington has scored in double-digits in seven of Cloud County's nine KJCCC games. Washington is averaging 13.6 points per game on a team-best 50.3 percent shooting from the floor, which ranks eighth overall in the KJCCC. Washington is also shooting 45.2 percent from three-point range while pulling down 7.6 rebounds and blocking 1.4 shots per game.

Wurtz is third on the team in scoring at 10.9 points per game, while leading the team in rebounding at 8.6 rebounds per game, which is the third best mark in the KJCCC. Wurtz's 14 rebounds against Fort Hays Tech Northwest was one shy of her career record of 15 rebounds that she recorded against both Independence Community College and Pratt Community College last year. Wurtz currently leads Cloud County in steals at 2.3 steals per game.

Todorovic is averaging 10.6 points per game on 46.0 percent shooting from the field while pulling down 5.9 rebounds per game. Makela is scoring 9.9 points per game with a team-leading 27 made three-pointers. Jankovic has 19 made three-pointers and is averaging 6.6 points per game. Soeken is scoring 4.1 points per game to go with 2.0 steals and 1.9 assists per contest.

Cloud County is 17-2 against Garden City since 2016 and swept the regular season series last year. The T-Birds earned a 57-53 overtime win in their most recent trip to Garden City on January 13, 2025.
