Box Score The Cloud County Community College women's basketball team connected on nine three-pointers for the second consecutive game, and sophomore forward Leila Washington scored a career high 30 points, but the team's second-half rally came up short as the T-Birds fell to No. 3 Dodge City Community College, 74-68, in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) play on Saturday, January 31.

Washington shot 13-of-22 from the floor, including 3-of-6 from deep. Washington's 13 made field-goals are the most by a Cloud County player since Maimouna Sissoko's 14 made field-goals against Pratt Community College on January 6, 2024. The Garber, Oklahoma native also grabbed six rebounds before fouling out after playing 31 minutes of action.

Freshman guard Amanda Makela joined Washington in double-figures with 14 points.

Cloud County moves to 9-12 overall and 5-11 in KJCCC action with the loss.

A slow start saw the T-Birds fall behind Dodge City by as many as 14 points in the first-half. Cloud County shot just 8-of-28 (28.6 percent) from the field through the first two quarters, including just 3-of-14 (21.4 percent) from the floor in the first period. Dodge City connected on seven three-pointers in the opening half and led 34-22 at the intermission.

The Conquistadors shot over 64 percent from the floor in the third quarter, including adding three more treys, to stretch its lead to 22 points at 59-37 with 1:07 remaining in the third frame. The T-Birds, however, wouldn't go away quietly, trimming the margin to single digits by utilizing a 17-4 run, capped by a Washington three-pointer, to make it 63-54 midway through the fourth quarter. Cloud County got as close as four points on a Makela triple with 11 seconds remaining, but were unable to complete the comeback.

The T-Birds, who outscored Dodge City 46-40 in the second-half, shot over 55 percent from the floor over the final two quarters. Sophomore forward Shea Wurtz and freshman guard Jelena Jankovic each finished with six points. Wurtz added a team-high seven rebounds and three assists. Sophomore guard Lauren Marron and freshman guard Marilyn Soeken tallied five points each. Soeken led the team with three steals. Freshman forward Sofija Todorovic added two points.

Dodge City outscored Cloud County 30-16 in points in the paint and 30-8 in bench points. The Conquistadors also outrebounded the T-Birds, 35-24.

Cloud County will return to action on Saturday, February 7 when it welcomes Colby Community College. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 pm inside Arley Bryant Gymnasium.
