Box Score Three players finished in double-figures, allowing the Cloud County Community College women's basketball team to earn a season split with the Colby Trojans, 58-48, in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play on Wednesday, February 5.
Freshman guard
DaNae Crosby led the T-Birds with a game-high 22 points, including a 6-of-6 effort from the free-throw line. Crosby also had five assists and three steals. Sophomore guard
TiAna Davis had 12 points after going 8-of-8 from the foul line. Davis also tallied five rebounds. Freshman forward
Shea Wurtz contributed a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, including eight on the defensive glass. Wurtz, who now has two double-doubles on the year, also had three assists, two steals and a blocked shot.
Cloud County ended the night 18-of-59 (30.5 percent) from the field and just 2-of-17 (11.8 percent) from three-point range. The T-Birds did connect on 20-of-24 (83.3 percent) from the free-throw line, including going 6-of-6 from the foul line in the final ten minutes of regulation.
For Colby, they shot 17-of-54 (31.5 percent) overall, 3-of-11 (27.3 percent) from deep, and 11-of-18 (61.1 percent) from the free-throw line. The Trojans finished with 19 turnovers which led to 12 points for Cloud County.
Five players scored in the first quarter for Cloud County, helping the T-Birds jump out to a 14-13 lead. The game was tied six times in the opening half with neither team able to lead by more than seven points. Colby controlled the boards in the first-half, outrebounding Cloud County 21-15. The T-Birds found ways to get to the line, hitting on 9-of-10 (90.0 percent) free-throws in the first-half, including going a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe in the second quarter. Cloud County ended the half on an 8-3 run to lead 30-29 at the intermission.
A slow-start coming out of the break saw both teams combine to score just six points through the first six minutes of the third quarter. Crosby scored six points over the final three minutes to push the T-Birds to a 41-37 advantage heading into the final period.
With the momentum in their favor, Cloud County finished strong, shooting 45.5 percent from the field and outscoring Colby 17-11 in the final stanza. Crosby and Davis had six points each in the fourth quarter. The T-Birds also limited the Trojans to 3-of-13 (23.1 percent) from the floor, including 0-of-3 from behind the arc, to seal the victory.

Talasia Thomas and
Lilliana Petersen each netted four points. Thomas also had seven rebounds and four steals before fouling out. Additionally, freshman
Lauren Marron had three points, sophomore
Meilin Guo added two points and six rebounds, while sophomore
Kiley Smich had one point and two rebounds.
Improving to 14-8 overall and 9-8 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play, the T-Birds return to the court on Saturday, February 8 at Independence Community College at 2 pm.
