Cloud County Women's Basketball Team Falls in Road Contest at No. 18 Hutchinson

Box Score The Cloud County Community College women's basketball team fell behind early but made a valiant effort to rally back at the end as No. 18 Hutchinson handed the T-Birds a 77-67 road loss on Saturday, December 13.

The loss drops Cloud County to 5-7 overall and 1-6 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) play heading into the Christmas holiday break.

Cloud County led 7-6 early on, but the Hutchinson Blue Dragons went on a 10-0 run over the next two minutes and thirty four seconds to grab 16-7 lead with 3:35 remaining in the first frame. Hutchinson remained in front the rest of the first-half, leading by as many as 11 points before settling for 38-29 halftime lead. Cloud County freshman guard Camiah Muldrow, the team's leading scorer on the season, was whistled for three fouls and limited to six minutes of action in the opening half, while Hutchinson shot 45.7 percent from the field and outscored the T-Birds 24-8 in points in the paint.

Hutchinson kept its foot on the gas in the third quarter, going up by 15 points on a jumper by sophomore forward Delora Pricop at the 2:03 mark of the third period. The Blue Dragons maintained a double-digit lead at the end of the quarter, 60-48.

A three-pointer by freshman forward Kaia Smith pushed Hutchinson's lead back to 15 points to open the fourth quarter, but the T-Birds began to chip away at the lead from that point. Cloud County went on a 16-2 run over the next five minutes, highlighted by seven points from sophomore forward Shea Wurtz, four points from Muldrow, a triple from freshman forward Sofija Todorovic, and an offensive putback by freshman guard Amanda Makela, to draw to within one point at 65-64 with 4:10 to go. Hutchinson recovered enough to go on a 12-3 run to seal the win.

Wurtz led the way with 18 points and 11 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. Makela provided 14 points, five rebounds and three assists. Todorovic added 13 points, six rebounds and four assists, while Muldrow finished in double-figures with 10 points, five rebounds and four assists. Freshman forward Leila Washington chipped in nine points and four rebounds.

Cloud County will return to action on Saturday, January 3 at 2 pm to host Pratt Community College.
