Cloud County Women's Basketball Team Drops 97-71 Contest to No. 1 Dodge City

Box Score The Cloud County Community College women's basketball team fell to No. 1 Dodge City Community College by a final score of 97-71 on Saturday, November 29 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) play. After leading by one point at the half, Dodge City outscored Cloud County 58-33 in the second-half to pull away. The T-Birds' record falls to 4-5 overall and 0-4 in KJCCC action, while Dodge City has improved to 8-0 on the season and 3-0 in KJCCC play.

Freshman guard Camiah Muldrow led Cloud County with 28 points. Muldrow was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. She also added six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Sophomore forward Leila Washington totaled 12 points and three rebounds. Freshman guard Marilyn Soeken followed with eight points, two assists and two steals. Freshman guard Jelena Jankovic added seven points off the bench. Sophomore forward Shea Wurtz finished with six points and a team-high eight rebounds, while freshman guard Amanda Makela and freshman forward Sofija Todorovic had five points each.

Cloud County trailed by as many as 12 points in the opening half before outscoring Dodge City 25-17 in the second quarter to cut the deficit to one point at 39-38 at halftime. Cloud County shot 62.5 percent from the floor in the second period, led by Muldow who scored 11 of her 28 points in the second frame. The Conquistadors entered the game as the top three-point shooting team in the KJCCC, but the T-Birds held them to just 4-of-16 shooting from behind the arc in the opening 20 minutes of play.

Dodge City controlled the action in the second-half. The Conquistadors opened the third quarter on a 29-8 run to grab its largest lead of the period at 22 points with 2:36 remaining. Dodge City maintained a 20-point lead at the end of the third frame and cruised to the comfortable 97-71 win.

The Conquistadors shot 36-of-68 (52.9 percent) for the game, including 14-of-20 (70.0 percent) from the floor in the third quarter. Dodge City also knocked in 10-of-32 (31.3 percent) from long-range, and 15-of-19 (78.9 percent) from the foul line. Cloud County finished the game 23-of-63 (36.5 percent) from the field, 9-of-20 (45.0 percent) from behind the arc, and 16-of-19 (84.2 percent) from the charity stripe.

Dodge City notched 52 points in the paint compared to Cloud County's 16. The Conquistadors also won the points off turnovers battle, tallying 29 points while the T-Birds had 16.

Sophomore guard Savi Mi led five Conquistadors in double-figures with 22 points. Redshirt freshman guard Mailey Cunningham had 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting to go with seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Manuela Piljevic also grabbed seven rebounds to go with her 13 points. Sophomore guard Jolie Mantz added 12 points, while freshman guard Saje Evans finished with 10 points and four rebounds.

Cloud County will return to action on Saturday, December 6 when they travel to Colby, Kansas to face the Colby Trojans in KJCCC action. Tip-off is slated for 1 pm from the Colby Event Center.
