Four Finish in Double-Figures to Lead Cloud County Women's Basketball to 82-54 Home Win Over Pratt

Box Score Behind a combined 56 points from a trio of post players, the Cloud County Community College women's basketball team dispatched Pratt Community College, 82-54, on Saturday, January 18 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play.

The win lifts Cloud County to 12-5 overall and 7-5 in conference action. The T-Birds have improved to 8-2 at home this season.

Cloud County took control early as freshman forward Lilliana Petersen scored 13 points in the opening ten minutes, including connecting on three shots from behind the arc. Freshman forward Talasia Thomas added nine early points and the T-Birds led 24-16 after one quarter of play.

Defensively, Cloud County forced Pratt into 11 first half turnovers. Petersen continued to have a hot-hand, adding two more treys in the second period to finish the opening half with 22 points. Sophomore guard TiAna Davis and freshman guard Lauren Marron each added three-pointers of their own and the T-Birds held a 43-33 edge at halftime.

Cloud County put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring the Beavers 20-9 in the period. Freshman forward Shea Wurtz had 12 points and seven rebounds in the third stanza, while the Cloud County defense registered five steals and forced seven turnovers while limiting Pratt to just 2-of-12 (16.7 percent) shooting from the field.

Thomas then scored nine straight points in the fourth quarter, helping Cloud County extend its advantage to 29 points before settling for the 28 point win.
 
Petersen led all scorers with a season-high 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including going 5-of-9 from three-point range. Petersen also pulled down a season-high 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the year.

Thomas finished with 18 points on 8-of-11 shooting, scoring in double-figures for the fourth time in the team's last five games.

Wurtz added 14 points and matched a season-high with 15 rebounds, including nine on the offensive end.

Cloud County also got 10 points, 5 assists, four steals and three rebounds from Davis. Freshman guard Bre Frazier had five points and four assists. Sophomore Meilin Guo chipped in four points and three rebounds. Marron added three points, while freshman guard DaNae Crosby and sophomore guard Kiley Smich had two points and four assists each. 
 
The T-Birds outrebounded Pratt by a 49-40 margin. Cloud County outscored the Beavers 44-26 in points in the paint, 19-10 in second-chance points, 31-10 in points off turnovers, and 23-0 in points off the bench.

Cloud County returns to the court on Wednesday, January 22 at Seward County Community College. The T-Birds won the first meeting between the two teams, 57-53, on November 20, 2024. Tip is scheduled for 6 pm inside the Greenhouse in Liberal, Kansas.
