MONROE, LA – A second National Championship performance and a trio of national runner-up finishes from the Cloud County Community College women's track and field team over the final two days of competition led to a third-place team finish at the 2024 NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at Brown Stadium on the campus of Louisiana-Monroe in Monroe, Louisiana.
Entering day two action with 22 team points, CCCC added another 56 points over the final 17 events that were scored to earn a podium finish for the third-straight NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship meet. Winning the team title for their fifth national title in the last seven contested titles was New Mexico Junior College with 98 total points to edge out national runner-up Barton Community College who finished with 93 total points. Rounding out the top-five was Iowa Western (74 points) and South Plains College (47.83 points).

Looking to build momentum off Thursday's opening day that saw a national title performance from the 4x800 meter relay team and third-place finishes from
Tamara Thompson (hammer throw) and
Jasmine Sakaguchi ( pole vault), CCCC wasted little time in getting more points added to their team total with
Shackala Henry clearing 1.73 meters (5 ft. – 8 in.) in the high jump to finish as national runner-up. The height was the height cleared by National Champion Gabrielle Cook of Hagerstown Community College with Henry clearing the height on her third attempt while Cook cleared it on her first attempt to win the tiebreak. Adding another two points in the event for the T-Birds was
Cordaelia Williams after clearing 1.63 meters (5 ft. – 4.25 in.) which proved to be the third-best height cleared at the meet to place seventh out of 16 athletes who competed in the event. Also adding points in field events on Friday was
Adrienne Locke-Garcia in the shot put, placing fifth with a throw of 13.87 meters (45 ft. – 6.25 in.) before coming back later in the evening to take fourth in the discus with a throw of 49.69 meters (163 ft. – 0 in.).
On the track, Cloud County had three qualifying marks in preliminary races as well as a school-record performance leading to a fifth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase for
Ozia Trujillo, running a time of 11:09.37 to break the old record held by
Melody Ochana (11:24.39). In the preliminary races,
N Vanee Anchike placed first out of 27 runners in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:34.37 while
Chenessa Davis placed seventh in the 100-meter hurdles (14.12 seconds) before seeing
Mercy Angaamchaab qualify eighth in the 800 meters (2:14.01).
Saturday Results:
With athletes set to compete in six events spread throughout the day, CCCC saw its second National Championship performance come from Anchike in the 1,500 meters by lowering her qualifying time by nearly three seconds to win the event that saw the top-four runners all finish under her Friday qualifying time while seeing
Rafiatu Nuhu earn national runner-up honors in the 400 meters with a time of 53.73 seconds. Anchike went on to add a national runner-up finish in the 5,000 meters two and a half hours later by running a time of 17:45.55 to finish her weekend by being part of two national championship performances and a national runner-up performance after seeing Davis take sixth in the 100-meter hurdles (14.17 seconds) and Angaamchaab place fifth in the 800 meters (2:13.49).
