Region VI Indoor Track Results   |   KJCCC West Indoor Track Results

PITTSBURG, Kan. – After racing out to a 26-point lead on day one of action at the 2024 NJCAA Region VI Indoor Track and Field Championships, the Cloud County Community College women's track and field team ensured that they reclaimed the top-spot on the podium by growing their advantage and pulling away for a 39.5-point victory to claim their third title in the past four years inside the Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kansas on Sunday, February 18th.

With things appearing to be a two-team race between Cloud County and Barton after day one action with CCCC outscoring the Cougars 61-35 on the opening day, the T-Birds continued to distance themselves throughout the day on Sunday by scoring another 119.5 points with two more individual NJCAA Region VI Championship performances and another eight top-three finishes in events to finish with 180.5 points compared to the second-place total of 141 from Barton. No other team eclipsed the 100-point mark with both Colby and Fort Scott a very distant third with 70 total points while Cowley (66.5 points) edged out Butler (66 points) to round out the top-five in the team scoring.

The two individual NJCAA Region VI Championship performances on the final day of action came from freshman Nontokozo Ncube with an event-winning time of 1:35.40 in the 600 meters being followed later in the day by a time of 2:19.75 in the 800 meters to give CCCC 20 team points off the victories. Mercy Angaamchaab finished in second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.56 in addition to a third-place finish in the 600 meters (1:36.67) for the T-Birds to give Cloud County a pair of top-three finishers in both events while N Vanee Anchike took second in both the mile run (school-record time of 4:52.73) and 3,000 meters (national qualifying time of 10:28.54) for another 16 points following a Region VI Championship performance in the 5,000 meters Saturday night. Rafiatu Nuhu was another busy T-Bird on the track on Sunday with a second-place finish in the 400 meters with a season-best time of 55.59 seconds before taking third in the 200 meters with a time of 24.70 seconds while also helping the 4x400 relay team (Chidinma Nwachukwu, Lela Singleton, Ncube, and Nuhu) run a third-place time of 3:55.05.
