Box Score The Cloud County Community College women's basketball team continued Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play with a win on Saturday, December 7, beating the Independence Pirates, 75-61.
The T-Birds jumped out to a 21-7 lead at the end of the first quarter, but then saw their cushion cut down to seven points midway through the second period. Cloud County ended the first half on a 10-3 run to lead 37-23 at the intermission. The T-Birds built their lead out to as many as 21 points and maintained a double-digit lead throughout the entire second-half, ultimately picking up a 14-point victory.
Sophomore guard
TiAna Davis led the way for the T-Birds with 27 points. Davis drilled three treys on the night, while also adding four rebounds, four assists and three steals to the stat sheet as well. Freshman guard
Bre Frazier had 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Making her first start of the season, freshman forward
Shea Wurtz had nine points and a team-high 15 rebounds, including 10 on the offensive glass. Freshman
Talasia Thomas battled foul trouble but finished with eight points and eight rebounds. Freshman
DaNae Crosby and sophomore
Darcy Lierz had seven points each. Crosby also led the team in assists with five. Freshman
Meilin Guo had three points and seven rebounds.
Cloud County finished the game with 18 steals, helping to force the Pirates into committing 26 turnovers, leading to 27 points off turnovers for the T-Birds. Cloud County had just nine turnovers.
The T-Birds also outrebounded the Pirates 49-43, ending up with 17 second-chance points, 42 points in the paint, 23 fast break points and 10 points off the bench.
The victory is the seventh consecutive home win for Cloud County. The T-Birds have improved to 9-2 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
The T-Birds continue conference action on Wednesday, December 11 when they travel to Coffeyville to face the Red Ravens. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 pm.
