Box Score The Cloud County Community College women's basketball team suffered a 77-58 setback to Colby in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play on Wednesday, December 4. The loss drops Cloud County to 8-2 overall and 3-2 in conference action.
Cloud County led 13-11 at the end of the first quarter before Colby was able to take control of the contest in the second period, outscoring the T-Birds by eight points in the second frame to grab a 29-23 halftime lead. Colby outrebounded Cloud County 26-11 in the opening half. Cloud County was limited to 31.4 percent shooting overall for the half, including 20 percent from three-point range. The T-Birds also went 0-of-4 from the free-throw line in the first-half of action.
The third quarter saw a combined 17 fouls called. The Trojans went 9-of-12 from the foul line, while Cloud County finished 9-of-16 from the charity stripe in the period. Colby added three triples in the frame to head into the fourth quarter up 53-44.
The fourth quarter then got away from the T-Birds. Cloud County ended the final stanza shooting just 4-of-20 (20 percent) from the field. Colby added three more baskets from long-range over the final ten minutes, shooting over 56 percent from the floor and outscoring the T-Birds 24-14 in the fourth quarter to capture the 19 point win.
Colby ended the night outrebounding Cloud County 48-23, resulting in 13 second-chance points for the Trojans compared to five for the T-Birds. Cloud County was also outscored 48-2 in points off the bench.
Sophomore
TiAna Davis paced three T-Birds in double-figures with 17 points. Freshman
Talasia Thomas posted her second double-double of the season with 16 points and a season-high 12 rebounds. Freshman
Bre Frazier added 11 points. Freshman
Lilliana Petersen scored eight points in 19 minutes of work, while freshman
Shea Wurtz had two points.
Cloud County returns home to host the Independence Pirates on Saturday, December 7 at 2 pm. Independence will enter the matchup at 1-9 overall and 0-4 in conference play, coming off a 71-40 home loss to Garden City on December 4. Cloud County has won three of its last four meetings with the Pirates.
