The Cloud County Community College women's basketball team is on the road for the second straight game on Wednesday, December 4 to face the Colby Trojans.
Tipoff is set for 5:30 pm. The game will be streamed live by
Open Spaces Sports. Fans can also listen to the game on 1390 KNCK and 98.3 FM, with Austin McNorton calling the action.
In Cloud County's last game, the T-Birds dispatched Fort Hays Tech Northwest, 89-43, in a Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference contest on November 30 in Goodland, Kansas. The win improved Cloud County to 8-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
Cloud County shot 44.6 percent from the field with 10 made three-pointers. Eleven players scored for Cloud County as seven T-Birds slotted eight or more points. Freshman
Lilliana Petersen registered 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including a 4-of-9 effort from behind the arc. Petersen also had four rebounds. Freshman
Shea Wurtz contributed 12 points on a nearly perfect 4-of-5 shooting to go with seven rebounds. Sophomores
TiAna Davis and
Meilin Guo added 11 points each. Davis also had three rebounds and two assists. Sophomore
Darcy Lierz and freshmen
Lauren Marron and
Talasia Thomas scored eight points each.Â
Cloud County will now face Colby, which has lost three straight conference games with losses to Coffeyville, Hutchinson and Garden City. The Trojans are 6-4 on the year and 1-3 in conference play. Colby is 5-1 at home this season.
Freshman
Bre Frazier leads the way for the T-Birds, averaging a team-high 13.0 points per game. Frazier scored a season-high 30 points on 66.7 percent shooting in the team's 70-44 home victory over Barton on November 26, helping Cloud County snap a ten-game losing streak to the Cougars, dating back to 2020. Frazier has been one of the most consistent scorers at the foul line, ranking fifth in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference in free-throw percentage at 83.3 percent (30-of-36).
With 11 points at Fort Hays Tech Northwest, Davis has scored in double-figures in eight of nine games for Cloud County this season. The sophomore transfer from Shorter College is averaging 11.2 points per game. Davis is the team-leader in three-pointers with 15, and ranks second on the team in assists at 3.0 assists per game.
Thomas is off to a strong start to her freshman campaign, averaging 10.4 points per game on 45.2 percent shooting from the field. Thomas is second on the team in rebounds with 50, second on the team in steals with 21, and second on the team in blocked shots with 15.
Petersen has scored in double-figures three times this season, including a season-high 17 points at Fort Hays Tech Northwest. Petersen is averaging 9.4 points per game and 4.7 rebounds per game. Petersen has the most blocks on the team this season with 16.
Wurtz leads the conference in field-goal percentage at 66.7 percent. The freshman from Clifton, Kansas is averaging 9.3 points per game and leads the team at 6.4 rebounds per game, which ranks 12th in the conference.
Freshman
DaNae Crosby is averaging 4.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.4 steals per game. Crosby ranks in the top ten in the conference in both assists per game and steals per game.
