Box Score Freshman forward Talasia Thomas scored 20 points to pace three T-Birds in double-figures and the Cloud County Community College women's basketball team never trailed in an 86-53 home victory over Concordia University JV on Thursday, November 7.

Thomas scored 12 of her game-high 20 points in the first frame, connecting on 6-of-9 shots from the field. Freshman guard Bre Frazier added two early three-pointers, enabling Cloud County to jump out to a 26-16 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

Thomas and Frazier added an additional six points each in the second period. The T-Birds connected on 10-of-11 shots from the free-throw line in the first half, including 8-of-8 in the second quarter, to extend its lead to 46-27 headed to halftime.

Cloud County scored 12 straight points in the paint to open the third quarter, capturing a 26 point advantage with just under three minutes remaining in the third period, and the T-Birds coasted from there.

For the game, Cloud County outscored Concordia University JV 52-24 in points in the paint. The T-Birds also held a sizable advantage in second-chance points, finishing with 21 second-chance points off of 24 offensive rebounds, compared to just six second-chance points scored by the Bulldogs. Cloud County also collected 18 steals and forced the Bulldogs into committing 22 turnovers that led to 22 points off turnovers. Concordia University JV had just four points off turnovers.

Thomas had 20 points off 10-of-14 shots from the field. She also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds for the first double-double of her collegiate career.

Joining Thomas in double-figures was Frazier with 14 points. Freshman DaNae Crosby had 11 points, five rebounds, four steals and a team-high seven assists.

Freshman forward Lilliana Petersen made her presence felt inside the arc. The 6-foot-1 forward from Omaha, Nebraska, scored nine points, seven of which came in the second half, to go along with six rebounds. Sophomore guard Kiley Smich tallied eight points, five rebounds and three steals, while Meilin Guo and Shea Wurtz had six points each. Wurtz also added six rebounds off the bench in just ten minutes of action.

Cloud County finished the game 33-of-81 (40.7 percent) overall from the field, and had six made triples. Concordia University JV was just 18-of-56 (32.1 percent) from the floor for the game.

The T-Birds make their first road trip of the season on Saturday, November 9 when they head to Norfolk, Nebraska to face Northeast Community College at 1 pm. Northeast is out to a 2-0 start to begin the year. The Hawks posted a 92-45 home win over Midland University JV on November 4, and followed it up with a commanding 88-53 victory over Southeast Community College in Lincoln, Nebraska on November 6. 

The T-Birds have won two of the last three meetings with Northeast, including a 79-48 win over the Hawks in Concordia on November 11, 2023.
