Cloud County Women's Basketball to Host Bethany College JV in Non-Conference Finale

The Cloud County Community College women's basketball team returns to action Thursday, November 14 when the T-Birds host Bethany College JV inside Arley Bryant Gymnasium. Tipoff of Cloud County's non-conference finale is slated for 6 pm.

The T-Birds are 4-0 on the season and coming off a 75-50 home win over Kanas City Kansas Community College in Cloud County's most recent game on November 12.

Freshman point guard Bre Frazier is averaging a team-best 13.0 points per game, while freshman forward Talasia Thomas is averaging 12.3 points, 6.8 rebounds per game and a team-best 3.0 steals per game. Sophomore transfer TiAna Davis and freshmen Lilliana Petersen and Shea Wurtz are all averaging nine points per game or better, with Wurtz pulling down a team-best 7.0 rebounds per game and shooting 71.4 percent from the field.

Cloud County is aiming to wrap up non-conference play with a perfect 5-0 record. It would mark the first time since the 2017-2018 season that the T-Birds have started the year 5-0.

Bethany College is under the direction of second year head coach, Sarah Able. During her first season with the Swedes, Able lead her team to a 15-14 record, including a 13-9 mark in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference, resulting in a sixth place finish. Able coached five All-KCAC honorees last season. Before taking the reins, Able was the assistant women's basketball coach for the Swedes from June 2021 to April 2023. Prior to working for Bethany, she was an assistant women's basketball coach at Coffeyville Community College for two seasons.

Cloud County and Bethany College JV have met six times since 2017. The T-Birds have won all six matchups. In the last meeting between the two teams on November 13, 2023, Cloud County picked up a 76-68 win. The T-Birds overcame an 11 point halftime deficit, including being outscored by 39 points from behind the arc, by dominating in the paint. Cloud County outscored the Swedes 52-14 in points in the paint for the game. Cloud County also dictated things on the glass, outrebounding Bethany by a 65-30 margin.

This season, the T-Birds have outrebounded their opponents by an average of 9.5 rebounds per game. Defensively, the T-Birds are holding their opponents to 55.8 points per game on 34.9 percent shooting, including just 24.1 percent from three-point range, while forcing an average of 25.3 turnovers per game. Cloud County is averaging 15.5 steals and 4.8 blocks per game.

Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play begins next week when Cloud County hosts Seward County Community College on Wednesday, November 20 for a 6 pm tipoff. The Seward County Saints are 3-1 overall and will host Northeastern Junior College on Monday, November 18 at 6 pm, prior to making their trip to Concordia.
