WICHITA, Kan. – 20 top-eight finishes and a trio of new national qualifying marks highlighted another big weekend of action for the Cloud County Community College women's track and field team following the three-day Wichita State University Herm Wilson Invitational held inside the Heskett Center in Wichita, Kansas.
With action starting on Thursday with a trio of T-Birds competing in the pentathlon, CCCC put together another strong showing against NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, and NJCAA competition as no team scores were kept throughout the meet.

Cordaelia Williams along with sophomores
Shackala Henry and
Mariem Soltani take part in the pentathlon as all three finished in the top five following the conclusion of the five events. Highlighting the individual events was a season-best mark of 1.71 meters (5 ft. – 7.25 in.) for Henry in the high jump to improve her national qualifying status and place second out of 14 competitors before going on to take third in the shot put (9.72 meters, 31 ft. – 10.75 in.). Soltani added a third-place finish in the 800 meters with a time of 2:41.05 as Williams finished in the top six of four of the five events to total 2,819 points to take second and post the sixth-best pentathlon score in the NJCAA this season. Just behind Williams in third was Henry with 2,813 points while Soltani scored 2,600 points as all three are currently in the top nine of the NJCAA performance list.
Friday Results:
Just two total events had Cloud County athletes competing on Friday, with the weight throw and pole vault accounting for T-Birds in action with three athletes competing in each of the two events. In the pole vault, sophomore
Jasmine Sakaguchi matched her opening-meet mark of 3.30 meters (10 ft. – 10 in.) to take sixth while
Elizabeth Dunham cleared 3.15 meters (10 ft. – 4 in.) to take seventh along with freshman
Bradie Medina clearing 3.00 meters (9 ft. – 10 in.). The weight throw saw
Adrienne Locke-Garcia record a mark of 14.72 meters (48 ft. – 3.5 in.) to take eighth while
Margherita Sala (12.49 meters, 40 ft. – 11.75 in.) and
Emaleigh Towner (11.62 meters, 38 ft. – 1.5 in.) also competed for CCCC.
Saturday Results:
With most of Cloud County's action in the three-day meet coming on the final day of competition, the T-Birds saved their best for last as three national qualifying marks on the track were seen with event wins coming from
Rafiatu Nuhu (600 meters – 1:37.53) and
N Vanee Anchike (1,000 meters, 2:57.53). Joining Anchike with a national qualifying time in the 1,000 meters was
Mercy Angaamchaab with a time of 3:09.48 to take seventh as both times rank in the top 15 of the NJCAA. Other top marks on Saturday saw
Chidinma Nwachukwu win the 200 meters with a time of 25.92 seconds while seeing
Ozia Trujillo win the mile run in a time of 5:24.84 among a 39-runner field. The final event win for Cloud County came in the 4x400 meter relay with Nwachukwu, Angaamchaab,
Nontokozo Ncube, and Nuhu running a time of 3:55.87 while a second relay team of
Lela Singleton, Anchike,
Jaelyn Rumback, and
Joella Mathilda took sixth (4:15.46). Rumback (fifth, 1:44.95) and Mathilda (sixth, 1:47.82) joined Nuhu with top-eight finishes in the 600 meters
Chenessa Davis finished second in the 60-meter hurdles (qualifying time of 8.83 seconds, finals time of 9.03 seconds), fourth in the long jump (5.27 meters, 17 ft. – 3.5 in.), and eighth in the high jump (1.50 meters, 4 ft. – 11 in.) as one of the busiest T-Birds on the final day of action.
What's Next?
Split-squad action will find Cloud County heading to both the University of Nebraska Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational and the Washburn University Open beginning on Friday, February 2nd. Both meets are two-day meets, with action concluding on Saturday, February 3rd.
