CONCORDIA, Kan. – Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference women's basketball postseason awards have been announced with Cloud County Community College women's basketball players
Alize Ruiz,
Maimouna Sissoko, and
Te Araroa Sopoaga all earning All-KJCCC accolades for their performance throughout the 2022-23 season for the T-Birds.
Earning second-team All-KJCCC honors would be the duo of Ruiz and Sissoko while Sopoaga would be named to the All-KJCCC Defensive Team and would be named an honorable-mention All-KJCCC selection.
The three selections for All-KJCCC honors are the most for CCCC in a single-season since the 2018-19 season when three T-Birds would earn All-KJCCC East Division accolades which also happens to be the last time prior to this season that Cloud County won at least 17 games in a season.
Setting a new single-season rebounding record for Cloud County, Ruiz earns the second-team All-KJCCC after appearing in 31 games for the T-Birds and making 29 starts to finish the year with 406 points and 375 total rebounds. With an average of 12.1 rebounds per game, Ruiz would rank second in the KJCCC in rebounds and 11th nationally while also tying for the team lead in scoring average (13.1 points per game). The 375 rebounds grabbed by Ruiz this season broke a 21-year-old record set by Shanele Stires in the 1991-92 season when the Junction, City, Kansas native hauled in 369 rebounds for the T-Birds.
Sissoko's second-team All-KJCCC selection comes following a year where the Bamako, Mali native would appear in 26 games, making 20 starts for the T-Birds while scoring 13. 1 points per game. Adding another 7.3 rebounds per game and 14 total blocks, Sissoko would shoot 43.6 percent from the floor to lead all T-Bird players and finish with the 15th-highest field goal percentage among qualified players in the KJCCC this season.
Sopoaga earns All-KJCCC accolades for the second-consecutive season while adding All-Defensive team honors appearing in all 31 games for CCCC and starting a team-high 30 games and averaging a team-high 31.3 minutes per game played. Filling up the stat sheet in multiple different categories, Sopoaga would score 10.5 points per game and grab 5.8 rebounds per contest while leading the team in assists (117), steals (73), and blocks (52). An average of 1.7 blocks per game would rank third in the KJCCC while ranking fifth in the conference in steals per game (2.4) and eighth in the KJCCC in assists per game (3.8).
