Box Score Iola, KS- The Cloud County Lady Thunderbirds got back on track with a 78-57 victory on the road at Allen County Saturday afternoon. The T-Birds are now 12-6 overall and 4-3 in Jayhawk Conference play.
The win was Head Coach Brett Erkenbrack's 600th career victory. He is now 600-256 in his 27 year career at Cloud County. His 600 wins are more than any other women's coach in the history of Region VI basketball. Erkenbrack is currently 5th among all active NJCAA women's coaches in wins.
Cloud led throughout the contest. The T-Birds have had trouble putting teams away as of late and on Saturday they refused to let Allen County climb back into the contest. Cloud led by five after a quarter, and extended it to ten at half by a score of 47-37.
The T-Birds continued to distance themselves in the second half, winning by a final score of 78-57.
Cloud shot just 39% from the field and 28.6% from three. The T-Birds were 14-18 from the free throw line for 77.8%.
Freshman Erin Alexander had another big game as she scored 18 points and pulled down 8 rebounds. She also blocked 3 shots. Alexander leads Region VI in blocks at 2.9 per game and ranks 7th nationally.
Darby Price had a big game as well with 12 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Chelcie Kizart had 14 points and 4 assists. Kaley Broeckelman had 11 points and 6 rebounds.
The T-Birds will now travel to Colby on Wednesday night for their 5th conference road game. Under the new schedule format, Cloud plays six of their first eight conference games on the road. The T-Birds and Trojans will tip off at 6:00pm.
