Alexander's Record Setting Day Fuels Cloud in McDonald's Classic

The Cloud County Lady Thunderbirds have won four in a row and have done so by an average margin of victory of just under 28 points. The T-Birds are now 6-2 on the season.

Cloud County participated in the McDonalds Classic hosted by Butler County Community College over the weekend and went 2-0 in the Classic with two lopsided wins. Cloud rolled over Labette 96-45 in their first matchup on Friday. They followed that up with an 86-62 win over Clarendon College on Saturday.

The T-Birds held Labette to just 16% shooting in the first half. Cloud shot 58% in the half and jumped out to a 48-24 lead at the halftime break.

Cloud continued to extend their lead and pulled away from Labette. The T-Birds dominated in the paint in both games on the weekend. The T-Birds outrebounded the Cardinals by 19.

Kristina Farber turned in her best performance of the season with a 19 point 8 rebound outburst. The sophomore from Hoxie, KS, connected on 7 of 10 field goals.

Darby Price had 16 points and 6 rebounds for the T-Birds. Chelcie Kizart chipped in 12 points.

The 51 point blowout was Cloud's largest margin of victory since the T-Birds opened the 2013-14 season with a 111-55 victory at McCook.

Erin Alexander turned in a performance for the ages against Clarendon. Alexander scored 28 points, pulled down 21 rebounds and blocked 6 shots in the contest. Of her 21 rebounds, 16 of them were defensive. The 16 defensive rebounds ties a Cloud County All-Time single game record for defensive rebounds.

The T-Birds and Bulldogs battled in a physical affair. Cloud used a huge first quarter to get out to a 33-17 lead. From there the two teams played nearly evenly until the end. Cloud led from start to finish and capped the weekend with an 86-62 win over Clarendon.

Alexander and Price had their way in the paint for the T-Birds. The tandem combined for 40 points, 31 rebounds, and 10 assists on the day.

Gabrielle Figgers scored 12 and had 4 assists. Kizart scored 11. She has scored in double digits in all eight contests for the T-Birds. Kaley Broeckelman had 10 points.

The T-Birds will return home looking for their 5th straight victory on Tuesday November 24th against Hesston College.
