For the first time in his career, Cloud County Community College sophomore
Cohen Nelson has been named NJCAA Division I Pitcher of the Week.
The left-hander from Grand Island, Nebraska earned the distinction following a dominant performance on the mound that propelled Cloud County to an 8-1 victory over Butler Community College in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) play last week. For the third straight start, Nelson limited a KJCCC opponent to one run. He also matched a season-high and career-high with 11 strikeouts for the second consecutive outing.
Nelson, returning from an early-season injury, is third on the Cloud County pitching staff with 40 strikeouts in just 21.0 innings pitched. He maintains a perfect 3-0 record, has a team-leading 1.29 ERA and is holding opposing hitters to a .116 batting average.
Cloud County (39-4) travels to Centerville, Iowa for a non-conference doubleheader with Indian Hills Community College on Saturday, April 18.
