The Cloud County Community College baseball team remains at No. 5 in the latest NJCAA Division I Baseball Rankings Presented by Netting Professionals after an impressive 5-0 week including a four-game Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) sweep over rival Butler Community College.
The T-Birds (37-4, 21-3 KJCCC) began last week with an 11-9 non-conference win over Cowley College. Sophomore
Vasya Seymour delivered a go-ahead pinch-hit three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the T-Birds to victory. Cloud County then carried that momentum into their series with Butler, outscoring the Grizzlies 49-17 in the four-game series. The T-Birds won the series opener 7-5 in extra-innings, before cruising to an 18-2 run-rule victory in game two. Cloud County finished off the sweep by winning 8-1 in game three and 16-9 in game four.
Johnson County Community College remains the No. 1 team in the country. The rest of the top-five is No. 2 Midland College, No. 3 Chipola College, and No. 4 Gaston College.
Joining Johnson County and Cloud County from the KJCCC inside the top-25 is Hutchinson Community College. The Blue Dragons are ranked No. 20.
Cloud County, ranked inside the top-five for the sixth time this season, has won all six of their KJCCC series to date, including taking three of four games from Hutchinson earlier this month.
The T-Birds will make a trip to Emporia, Kansas on Wednesday, April 15 where they will face Coffeyville Community College in a non-conference doubleheader. Cloud County will then make a pilgrimage to Centerville, Iowa for two games against Indian Hills Community College on Saturday, April 18.
