Cloud County Baseball Team Sweeps Road Doubleheader to Open KJCCC Series with Butler Community College

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Cloud County Community College baseball team captured a thrilling 7-5 win in eight innings before cruising to an 18-2 run-rule victory in game two of a Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) doubleheader against the Butler Community College Grizzlies on Thursday, April 9.

Cloud County has improved to 35-4 and 19-3 in KJCCC action with the wins.

Cloud County sophomore catcher Vasya Seymour crushed a two-run home run to left field in the top of the eighth inning to lead the T-Birds to a dramatic 7-5 win over Butler in game one of the doubleheader.

Redshirt freshman outfielder Simon Baker added a pair of home runs, including a two-run blast in the top of the seventh, as part of a three-hit game. Baker scored three runs and drove in three runs in the contest.

Freshmen Kellan Burke and Nolan Green also had big games at the plate. Burke had two hits, including a double, while adding one run scored and one RBI. Green also doubled and finished with a pair of hits.

Cloud County sophomore Stocton Timbrook stymied the Grizzlies offense through the first six innings until Butler broke through for three runs in the seventh. Timbrook struck out five and allowed five earned runs on eight hits in 6.1 innings.

Freshman Jackson Fox threw 1.2 innings after entering the game in the seventh inning. Fox allowed no runs on one hit with two strikeouts, earning his second win of the season on the mound.

The T-Birds then demolished the Grizzlies 18-2 in the nightcap. The win marked Cloud County's 23rd double-digit scoring game of the season, and the team's 14th double-digit performance in KJCCC play.

The T-Birds jumped in front immediately, scoring six runs in the first, highlighted by RBI singles by Burke and sophomore short stop Lucas Laukkanen.

Cloud County followed up their six spot with eight more runs in the second inning, including home runs by Laukkanen, Seymour and Baker.

The T-Birds weren't done. Cloud County plated three more runs in the fourth off a two-RBI triple to left field by Baker and an RBI single by freshman first baseman London Dingwell.

Cloud County capped their scoring in the fifth inning when sophomore third baseman Kaden Budke doubled to left field to drive in sophomore Tony Crow.

Baker led the offensive outburst, finishing game two going 3-for-3 with a home run, a triple, five RBI and four runs scored. Laukkanen drove in three runs off two hits with two runs scored. Budke had two RBI and two runs scored. Burke, Green, freshman outfielder Brody Seidl and redshirt freshman outfielder Evan Gunn each scored twice.

Freshman Ian Razak moved to 6-0 on the season by pitching the five-inning complete game. Razak allowed two earned runs on eight hits while giving up one walk. He struck out five.

Razak is now tied with Timbrook and sophomore Cole Linton for the team-lead in wins.

Cloud County is scheduled to conclude the four-game KJCCC series with another doubleheader against the Grizzlies on Saturday, April 11 at Lee Doyen Field in Concordia, Kansas, starting at 1 pm.
