Cloud County Community College sophomore short stop
Lucas Laukkanen has been named the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) West Division Baseball Player of the Week. This is the first time Laukkanen has earned the conference's weekly award.
Laukkanen hit .500 at the plate with a .600 on-base percentage across the team's four-game series sweep over Colby Community College in KJCCC play last week. Laukkanen collected eight hits with six extra-base hits, including three home runs, while driving in 15 in the series. In game two of the series, down to the T-Birds' final out, Laukkanen swatted his second home run of the game on an 0-1 pitch, putting the exclamation point on a memorable 12-11 walk-off win over the Trojans.
The sophomore from British Columbia, Canada is the fifth T-Bird to receive weekly honors this season, followingÂ
Simon Baker on February 24,Â
Stocton Timbrook on March 3,Â
Kellan Burke on March 10, and
Ian Razak on March 17.
This week, Laukkanen will lead the No. 4 Cloud County baseball team into another four-game KJCCC battle against Dodge City Community College. The Conquistadors are set to host the T-Birds on Thursday, March 26, with first pitch set for 1 pm. Cloud County will then welcome Dodge City for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 28, beginning at 1 pm.
