Box Score 2 Playing in their second extra-inning game in six days, the Cloud County Community College softball team scored seven runs in the top of the eighth inning to beat the Colby Trojans 14-7 in non-conference play on Monday, March 23.
The T-Birds softball team opened the doubleheader with a 9-6 loss in seven innings.
Freshman pitcher
Maddie Harold singled to score sophomore pinch runner
Hailey Garcia, who was placed on second base to start the eighth inning, to give the T-Birds an 8-7 lead.
Freshman first baseman
Jaci Vonlintel reached base on an error, which allowed Harold to score.
Sophomore catcher
Emalee Johnson drew a walk.
After Vonlintel and Johnson successfully executed a double steal, freshman second baseman
Brooke Lougheed doubled to drive them both in.
Freshman outfielder
Ava Boden drew the second walk of the frame, while sophomore short stop
Maliyah Koster was hit-by-a-pitch to load the bases.
Freshman third baseman
Hannah Gardner capped the scoring with an RBI single to bring in Lougheed, while Boden and Koster both scored on another defensive error on the Trojans.
Harold went 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI.
Boden went 2-for-3 in the game with a double, three runs scored and a RBI. Boden also stole a base.
Sophomore outfielder
Berkleigh Curtis hit two doubles and scored a pair of runs.
Lougheed added two hits with a double, two runs scored and two RBI.
Koster also tallied two hits with two runs scored and two RBI.
The T-Birds had 11 hits and also drew 11 walks.
Beyond the offense, Harold completed all eight innings in the circle to earn her third win of the season. Harold allowed seven runs, four earned, on seven hits while striking out eight batters for the second time in three starts. Harold has a team-leading 43 strikeouts on the year.
Cloud County captured a 7-6 lead in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Koster that scored Curtis. But Colby tied the score in the bottom of the seventh with a solo home run by sophomore Briley Christensen.
That led to the top of the eighth and the T-Birds' run explosion.
It was just last week the T-Birds completed a 10-9 win in nine innings over Northern Oklahoma College-Enid in their first extra-innings win of the season. Following their doubleheader split Monday, Cloud County has improved to 7-7 overall.
In the first game, Cloud County fell behind 6-0 at the end of the third inning.Â
The T-Birds rallied to tie the game with a six run top half of the fourth. Harold put a dent in the lead when she drilled a two-run home run to score freshman designated player

Kendal Ratzlaff to make it 6-4. A base hit from Koster scored Lougheed and Garcia to tie the game at 6-6.
Colby pushed across a run in the bottom of the fifth on a Cloud County error to retake the lead. Two more runs in the sixth solidified the Trojans win.
Lougheed led the offense with two hits, two RBI and one run scored. Ratzlaff added a double, while Harold, Boden and Koster finished with one hit apiece.
Freshman
Morgan Williams got the start and the loss in the circle, throwing six innings with nine runs, five earned, on 12 hits with one walk.
The T-Birds open Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) play on Thursday, March 26 against Coffeyville Community College. The first game of the doubleheader will begin at 1 pm at the CCCC Softball Field.Â
