Cloud County Community College freshman
Alpha Mpofu established a meet record in the 300M Dash and anchored the first-place 4x400M Relay team, headlining a stellar day for the Cloud County Community College men's track and field team that saw five athletes secure NJCAA Indoor national qualifying marks at the Washburn Rust Buster at the Sneed Indoor Athletic Facility in Topeka, Kansas on Friday, January 16.
Mpofu won the 300M Dash, crossing the finish line in a meet record time of 33.00. Sophomore
Barafa Abdulazis followed in fourth place in a time of 34.64.
Mpofu and Abdulazis later joined freshmen Sonycko Ilet and Keon Williams on the Men's 4x400M Relay team, winning the race in a national qualifying time of 3:13.12.
Cloud County had a second 4x400M Relay team of sophomore
Abdelaziz Benbrahim and freshmen
Andy Cooper, Oluwatimileyin Oladimeji and
Gage Taylor finish eighth in a time of 3:23.90.
Benbrahim added a second place finish in the 800M Run in a national qualifying time of 1:53.27.
Sophomore
Bailey Burns secured his spot at the NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships with a third place finish in the Long Jump with a qualifying leap of 23'10.25".
Freshman
Kacper Kurzewski cleared 15'1" in the Pole Vault to tie for sixth place overall and qualify for the NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Sophomore
Mory Diop picked up a national qualifying mark in the High Jump with an eighth place finish at a height of 6'6.25".
Several others posted top ten finishes at the Washburn Rust Buster:
- Freshman Conor Matthews placed sixth in the Triple Jump with a leap of 45'6.25".
- Sophomore Asa Berry captured a ninth place finish in the Weight Throw with a toss of 50'4.75".
- Freshman Keon Williams earned a tenth place finish in the 400M Dash in a time of 50.00.
Cloud County will return to action at the NAIA/JUCO Challenge in Pittsburg, Kansas on Saturday, January 24.
