Box Score 2 The Cloud County Community College softball team split a doubleheader with the Fort Scott Greyhounds on Monday, April 7, winning game one 4-2 before dropping game two 10-2. The split puts the T-Birds at 10-20 on the season and 1-7 in Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference play.
Pitching was the name of game number one, as neither team scored through the first five innings. Cloud County broke through first with three runs in the top of the sixth. An inning later, the T-Birds added one more run to take a 4-0 lead. Fort Scott responded in the seventh with two runs before the T-Birds were able to close out the contest.
Sophomore
Paige Mahler earned the win. Mahler threw all seven innings, allowing two earned runs on 10 hits with one walk and four strikeouts.
Sophomore
Camille Stauffer led the team at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI. Freshman
Maliyah Koster added a double, one run scored and two RBI. Freshman
Emalee Johnson also had a double with one run scored and one RBI. Sophomore
Harley Smith and freshmen
Berkleigh Curtis and
Kia Stokes had one hit each. Stokes also scored a run.
Rebounding from their game one loss, Fort Scott run-ruled the T-Birds in five innings in game two. Fort Scott led 4-0 after just two innings. The T-Birds cut the deficit to 4-2 in the top of the third, but the Greyhounds extended its lead with one run in the fourth and five more runs in the fifth inning.Â
Fort Scott outhit Cloud County 15-7 in the contest. Fort Scott had 11 extra-base hits with two home runs, while the T-Birds had seven singles from seven different batters. Johnson drove in the two runs for Cloud County in the third, scoring freshmen
Hailey Garcia and
Bella Santin on an RBI base-hit.
Sophomore
Brecken Whitney suffered the loss in the circle. Whitney allowed 10 runs, seven earned, on 15 hits with one walk.
The T-Birds will play next on Thursday, April 10 against the Labette Community College Cardinals. First pitch is scheduled for 2 pm from the CCCC Softball Field.
