The Cloud County Community College volleyball team returns home to host No. 9 Barton Community College at 3 pm Saturday, November 2. The T-Birds will honor four sophomore players for Sophomore Day.
Cloud County (7-22, 0-15 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference) split its final two road matches of the regular season earlier this week. The T-Birds recorded a 3-0 sweep of Kansas Wesleyan JV in a non-conference match in Salina, Kansas on October 28. The T-Birds won the match by set scores of 26-24, 25-22, 25-19. Cloud County then dropped its road conference finale on Wednesday, losing in four sets at Pratt, 13-25, 25-22, 17-25, 16-25.
Sophomore outside hitter
Bradie Medina continues to lead the T-Birds in kills and digs, currently with 322 and 414, respectively. Medina ranks fourth in the KJCCC in kills per set at 3.25, and fifth in the conference in digs per set at 4.18.
Freshmen setters
Maria Clara Lopes Miranda and
Savana Krupicka sit in the top 15 on the conference leaderboard in assists. Miranda leads Cloud County with 328 assists, while Krupicka has 269 assists this season.
Sophomore middle hitter
Emery May leads the team with 74 total blocks so far this year, currently averaging 0.85 blocks per set.
The Cloud County back row has continued to be strong defensively. Freshman
Beatrice Giusti is averaging 3.24 digs per set, which is tenth in the conference. Freshman
Berkleigh Curtis is averaging 2.15 digs per set, while freshman
Karoline Schroeder and sophomore
Ashley Suter currently average 2.06 digs per set and 2.03 digs per set, respectively.
Barton (27-2, 14-1 KJCCC) has won four straight after suffering their only conference loss of the season to Colby in a four-set match at home on October 16. The Cougars are 7-0 in true road matches this season. Barton has posted three straight wins over Cloud County, including sweeping the T-Birds in their first meeting of the year on October 2 in Great Bend, 16-25, 16-25, 14-25.
