The Cloud County Community College volleyball team begins its final road trip of the 2024 season when the T-Birds take on the Butler Grizzlies in El Dorado, Kansas on Saturday, October 26.
Cloud County (6-20, 0-13 KJCCC) heads into a three-match road swing after finishing 1-2 during its most recent three-match homestand. The T-Birds pushed Hutchinson Community College to the brink but fell in a tight four-set contest on October 19, and then split a pair of matches on October 23 by defeating Central Christian College JV by set scores of 25-9, 25-7, 25-19, before being edged by Central Community College in five sets, 25-21, 25-22, 16-25, 22-25, 14-16. Cloud County carries an 0-9 record on the road this season.
Outside hitter
Bradie Medina continues to rank in the top five in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference in kills per set and digs per set. The sophomore from Holdrege, Nebraska is averaging 3.20 kills per set and 4.17 digs per set. Medina posted her 17th double-double of the season with 21 kills and 31 digs in the team's home loss to Central on October 23.
Freshman defensive specialist
Beatrice Giusti is currently 10th in the conference in digs per set (3.23), while sophomore middle hitter
Emery May is 9th in blocks per set (0.92) and freshman setter
Maria Clara Lopes Miranda is 9th in assists per set (4.72).
The Grizzlies come into Saturday's match 16-14 on the season and 8-6 in KJCCC action. Butler has won four straight, posting conference wins over Seward County, Dodge City, Garden City and Hutchinson. Butler previously picked up a 3-1 win (19-25, 25-23, 20-25, 23-25) over Cloud County on September 25. The Grizzlies are 6-3 at home inside the Power Plant in El Dorado this season.
Butler freshman middle blocker Ryann Hamilton of Overland Park, Kansas, and sophomore outside hitter Sarah Sullivan of Henderson, Nevada, were named this week the KJCCC Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively. This is the second time this season Sullivan has earned Offensive Player of the Week honors and the first time Hamilton has earned conference recognition in her freshman campaign.
