CCCC Softball Falls Twice At #11 Johnson County

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Playing their first ranked opponent of the year, the Cloud County Community College softball team would suffer defeats of 13-0 (five innings) and 12-4 (six innings) to 11-ranked Johnson County Community College at the JCCC Softball Field in Overland Park, Kansas on Saturday, March 27th.

With the losses, Cloud County falls to 6-6 overall and 1-5 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference while Johnson County remains undefeated in conference play to improve to 4-0 in the KJCCC and 8-6 overall.

Game One:
Limited to just two hits in the contest, Cloud County would fall behind 2-0 after two innings of play before seeing the Cavaliers break out for six runs in the third to take an 8-0 lead heading to the fourth. JCCC would add another five runs in the fourth inning before retiring the T-Birds in order in the fifth to end the game after five innings.

Cloud County's two hits would come from a Taylor Glause single in the top of the first and Kyra Meyer double in the third as Kayla Lee would also reach base with a third-inning walk. Both Meyer and Lee would add stolen bases in the contest as CCCC would strand all three runners who reached base. Johnson County's 13 runs would come on 15 hits as the Cavaliers would also draw four walks in the game.

Game Two:
The T-Birds would ensure they wouldn't be held scoreless in game two as Lee would lead off the game with a solo home run to give CCCC an early 1-0 lead after half an inning of play. Johnson County would then turn a leadoff walk into a run in the bottom of the first to tie things up at 1-1 before going on to score two in the bottom of the second to take a 3-1 lead into the third inning.

Cloud County would see a quick top of the third inning come on a double-play and fly out to spoil a leadoff single from Lee as JCCC would waste no time in their half of the inning by scoring three runs on three hits. The T-Birds would battle back in the top of the fourth to cut into the 6-1 Johnson County lead by scoring three runs on three this and a walk with error by the Cavaliers extending the inning. Things would stay a 7-4 contest in the bottom of the fourth as Cloud County would work around a one-out singleand two-out hit-by-pitch for Johnson County as the game would still be within reach for CCCC heading to the fifth.

A one-two-three inning from CCCC in the top of the fifth would make way for a three-run bottom of the inning for Johnson County as the score would be pushed back out to a six-run contest at 10-4 for JCCC as the Cavaliers would score all three runs with two outs. Johnson County would then hold Cloud County scoreless in the top of the sixth before ending things with a game-ending three-run home run to sweep the day.

Finishing the game with three of CCCC's six hits and two RBI would be Lee as the Kearney, Nebraska native would also have one of the three T-Bird extra-base hits. Rae Ann Hartwig would add two hits in the contest with a single and a double while Emily Dunaway would have CCCC's lone other hit.

What's Next?
A previously announced schedule change to the T-Bird schedule will now see Cloud County at home on Tuesday instead of on the road. CCCC has had their road doubleheader at Allen County Community College postponed due to health and safety protocols set forth by the KJCCC while their previously postponed doubleheader against number-nine ranked Highland Community College will take its place with a 2 p.m. doubleheader on March 30th. The Scotties are 17-3 overall and 4-0 in the KJCCC following a doubleheader sweep of Fort Scott on Saturday afternoon.
