Finishing the weekend with three wins in four matches, Cloud County is now 18-4 overall with two wins over the Cougars this year who fall to 14-10 on the year ahead of a match against Pratt Community College later this evening. The Cardinals drop to 0-23 on the year and will play Cloud County again later this month in Parsons.
Against Barton:
The host Cougars would take advantage of being at home as the first set would go to BCC by a score of 25-16 before seeing the T-Birds bounce back in the second set with a tightly contested 25-22 set win. With the score knotted at one set each, both teams would battle through the third set both Cloud County and Barton keeping things close before seeing CCCC pull away late for a 25-21 set victory. The second and third sets would prove to be a precursor to the fourth set, as things would play out in similar fashion to the two before with the T-Birds having to hold off a late charge from the Cougars to win 25-23 and earn their second four-set victory over Barton this season.
Freshman Riley Bontrager would record 44 of Cloud County's 47 set assists in the contest while also adding 11 digs to finish with a double-double on the afternoon. Continuing her recent string of dominant play would be Dayana Chara as the Cartagena, Columbia native finished with a team-best 19 kills and added 22 digs while Maria Garcia Bustos had a season-high three service aces.
Against Labette:
Avoiding a slow start for the first time all weekend, the T-Birds would flat out overpower the Cardinals from opening serve while limiting errors. Just six attack errors took place in the first set by Cloud County as the T-Birds would win the opening set 25-14 as CCCC would match their effort in the second set for another 25-14 win. Firing on all cylinders in the third set, Cloud County could do little wrong as the sweep would be finished off with a 25-11 victory to allow the T-Birds to surpass last year's win total.
Between attack errors and block errors, Cloud County would commit just 12 total errors in the match while putting up six total blocks and six service aces to pick up points in addition to a strong offensive output. Both Delaney Herold and Mary Broxterman led the T-Birds with 10 kills each while Madi Spencer had a team-high 18 digs. In total, eight different Cloud County players would record a kill while five different players a service ace.
