LAWRENCE, Kansas — The Cloud County Community College track and field teams continued an impressive start to the outdoor season as the T-Birds finished with the highest team scores of any NJCAA team at the Jayhawk Classic, hosted Thursday and Friday in Lawrence.
The Cloud County men's team finished with 125.50 points, only behind NCAA Division I schools in Tulsa and Kansas, while the women's team finished with 80 points.
Cloud County had five athletes earn top-3 finishes in the non-NCAA school division, including event wins from sophomore Gabbreil Harris in the women's weight throw and freshman Louis Humbert in the men's heptathlon with 4,673 points.
Harris won with a throw of 56'6.5 and was joined in the top-5 throw by teammates Avi Bulai (48'10) and Alexis Budke (45'3.75) as they were fourth and fifth, respectively.
Kouri's time of 1:57.23 was one of 12 new national qualifying marks produced by the T-Birds over the two days.
Sophomore thrower Vashon McCarthy, and the freshmen jumping duo of Kyle Alcine and Peter Ackah, posted Cloud County's additional top finishes.
McCarthy, already a national qualifier in the men's shot put, finished second in the event with a throw of 55-03.50.
Alcine, who just joined the Cloud County roster earlier in the week, took home third in the high jump with a national qualifying mark of 6-08.25.
Ackah would also punch his ticket to the national meet with a qualifying leap of 23-00.75 in the long jump to finish third. He added another third-place finish in the triple jump (46-02.75).
