Box Score DODGE CITY, Kansas — The Cloud County Community College volleyball team resumed KJCCC action on Monday, falling 25-19, 25-20 and 25-18 on the road in a tightly contested match against Dodge City Community College.
The loss dropped Cloud County to 3-13 overall and 0-5 in the KJCCC, while Dodge City improved to 12-7 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
Cloud had its opportunities to flip the script as it trading points with the Conquistadors much of the first set — the two teams were tied as late as 15-15 in Set One — before Dodge City closed the set on a 10-4 run.
The Conquistadors rode that momentum into the second set as they jumped out to a quick 12-5 lead.
Following a timeout, the T-Birds hung tough with Dodge City the rest of the way, but were unable to chip away at that early gap as Dodge City would take the second set, 25-20.
Cloud County again put itself in position to win a set in Set Three, tying the match at 18-18 via a solo block by sophomore Christen Greving. She finished with a team-high two solo blocks and a block assist.
Dodge City countered with the next two points to force a T-Birds' timeout at 20-18 and didn't relinquish the momentum as the Conquistadors scored the ensuing five points out of the timeout to win Set Three, 25-18, and complete the sweep.
Offensively, Cloud was paced by sophomore Irem Bat and freshman Giovanna Fundaro with 10 kills apiece. Redshirt sophomore Drew Mann added six kills.
Freshmen setters Cammie Miller and Kamryn Stark were solid as Miller finished with 10 assists and 10 digs, while Stark finished with 20 assists.
In the back row, freshman libero Britt Michaelis tallied 22 digs.
The T-Birds return home to face the first place Colby Community College Lady Trojans (15-2 overall, 5-0 KJCCC) on Wednesday inside Arley Bryant Gymnasium. Action is scheduled to get underway at 6:30 p.m.
