Box Score 2 IOLA, Kansas —The Cloud County Community College softball team concluded its four-game road swing this weekend with a split against Allen County Community College.
As they did on Friday in a twin bill against Neosho County, the T-Birds (17-15 overall, 10-8 KJCCC) dropped the first game of the series on Saturday to the Red Devils (14-23 overall, 5-9 KJCCC) as they fell, 6-1. They'd rebound in the series finale, though, with a 4-2 victory behind some earlier offense and a solid start by sophomore Bayleigh Cope.
Cloud County scored all four of its runs in the first two innings, including a three-run first inning. Freshman Autumn Adams drove in all three runs with a bases-clearing double.
Sophomore second baseman Jaycee Worrell drove in Cloud's fourth run in the second inning with a RBI single, scoring freshman Marissa Wright, who finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored on the afternoon.
Cope would make that run support hold up as she went all seven innings, allowed two runs, one earned and scattered eight hits while striking out four. The right-hander improved to 4-6 overall on the season with the win.
In Game One, it was errors that got the better of the T-Birds as they committed five in the game at crucial situations. With the score tied 1-1 heading to the fifth inning, the Red Devils put four runs on the board in the fifth and one run in the sixth, with only one of those runs being earned to break the game open.
Offensively, Cloud was limited to six hits, two coming from freshman third baseman Nicole DInkel (2-for-3).
The T-Birds will return home on Tuesday when they host Hesston College. Game times are set for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
