CHANUTE, Kansas — The Cloud County Community College softball team returned to the field Friday following a 10-day layoff due to recent rains, earning a road split against Neosho County Community College.

After a rough start to the afternoon, a 12-4 loss in five innings in Game One, the T-Birds bounced back to win 4-3 in eight innings to conclude the day's action.

Sophomore second baseman Jaycee Worrell pulled a ball into the hole on the right side in the top of the eighth for what proved to be the game-winning RBI groundout, scoring freshman Sarah Teufel.

Worrell, despite being 0-for-5, delivered two productive outs on the day as she drove in another run in the sixth to give Cloud a 3-2 lead at the time.

In the circle, Teufel went all eight innings for the T-Birds. She allowed three runs, one earned on eight hits, and struck out four.

Freshmen Marissa Wright and Nicole Dinkel, as well as sophomore Erin King, each had two hits apiece to lead the offense in Game Two.

It capped a good afternoon at the plate for Dinkel, who drilled a three-run home run for her third long ball of the season in Game One.

Cloud County will resume its four-game road series on Saturday when it plays a doubleheader against Allen County Community College. Game times are set for 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
