Box Score 2 CONCORDIA, Kansas — The Cloud County Community College softball team swept its home opening doubleheader on Thursday against Bethany College JV, earning a 6-3 come-from-behind victory in Game One and a 4-2 victory in Game Two.
Freshman catcher Elise Oberlechner had a huge day for the T-Birds (3-4 overall) as she went 5-for-7 on the day and 3-for-4 in Game One, including an RBI single and a leadoff double that set the table for a three-run fifth inning.
She scored the game-tying run on a sac fly by freshman Nicole Dinkel. Sophomore Erin King then put Cloud County on top for good with a two-run double hit on a frozen rope to center field.
In the circle, sophomore Bayleigh Cope shook off a tough first inning, where Bethany JV put up two unearned runs, to earn her first victory of 2017.
Cope pitched six innings, allowed three runs, one earned, on seven hits while striking out three.
Freshman right-hander Sarah Teufel came on in the seventh to nail down the save for the T-Birds.
In Game Two, it was Cloud County that struck first as it put up two runs in the opening frame, courtesy of an RBI double by Oberlechner and a RBI single off the bat of sophomore outfielder Samantha Shafer.
The T-Birds added an unearned run in the second inning and got another insurance run in the fifth on an RBI double by freshman Autumn Adams.
Teufel picked up the win after going 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits.
Freshman Jordan Ummel, fresh off her KJCCC Division II Pitcher of the Week award, closed the door as she pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings while not allowing a hit and striking out four.
Up next for Cloud County will be its annual Cloud County Spring Classic; a five-game tournament that will begin with a 10 a.m. game on Saturday against Southeast Community College.
The T-Birds will also play at 2 p.m. Saturday against Iowa Western Community College.
