Box Score GREAT BEND, Kansas — The Cloud County Community College volleyball team wrapped up its grueling seven-match road swing on Saturday, falling in four sets to Barton Community College.
A slow start to the afternoon plagued the T-Birds (4-21 overall, 1-12 KJCCC) and created an early hole to climb out of as they dropped the first two sets of the match 25-12 and 25-17, respectively.
Cloud County found traction and controlled Set Three, though, leading wire-to-wire in an eventual 25-19 win to push Barton (14-12 overall, 6-7 KJCCC) to a fourth set.
Redshirt sophomore Drew Mann led the charge in the third set as she powered down five of her nine kills in the win, while sophomores Christen Greving, Elizabeth Nobert and Irem Bat all added three kills.
In the fourth set, Bat was the hot hand as she went 7-for-10 in her attack attempts and had Cloud on the verge of tying up the match. But the Cougars were able to hold off the T-Birds' comeback attempt as they scored four of the last five points to escape with a 25-20 win in Set Four to conclude the match.
Bat led all Cloud players with 11 kills. She added five digs and two service aces, as well.
Freshman setter Kamryn Stark finished with a team-high 34 assists and added eight digs while, defensively, fellow freshman Britt Michaelis paced all T-Birds with 15 digs.
Cloud County will look to get back in the win column at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday when it hosts Garden City Community College. It'll be the first home match for the T-Birds since they swept Pratt Community College back on Sept. 25.
