Cloud Rolls Past Fort Scott In Doubleheader Sweep

Concordia, KS- Cloud County swept a Jayhawk Conference doubleheader with Fort Scott on Saturday by the scores of 4-0 and 9-1. 

Both teams stranded runners early in game one before the T-Birds broke the scoreless tie with an RBI groundout from Bailee Laron scoring Samantha Shafer in the 3rd. Shafer had led off with a single. It was her first of three hits in the game. 

Shafer would help Cloud extend the lead in the sixth with a two out, two RBI single to push the lead to 4-0. 

Bayleigh Cope worked in and out of jams all day stranding 12 Fort Scott runners on the bases in her complete game shutout effort. Cope scattered nine hits and struck out three in the win. She is now 6-6 on the season. 

The victory marked the 250th in the career of Cloud County Head Softball Coach Aaron Acree.

Cloud exploded in game two winning by run rule in five innings. 

The T-Birds scored first as they would plate three runs in the first. Bayleigh Cope provided the big spark in the first with a two RBI double scoring Jaycee Worrell and Leslie Schuetz. 

Cloud County then sent 10 batters to the plate in the third inning and took a 9-0 lead. Erin King had a two RBI single in the inning. Worrell tripled home two T-Birds in the inning as well. 

For Scott would add one in the fourth but it was too little too late. 

Lexi Duhrkop threw all five innings for Cloud County. Duhrkop was efficient allowing just two hits and one walk in the win. 

Schuetz had two hits to lead Cloud County. Worrell, Cope, and King all drove in two runs. 

Cloud County is now 10-16 overall and 7-13 in Jayhawk play. They will host a doubleheader with Cowley on Tuesday at 2/4pm.
