Box Score 2 Kansas City, KS- After dropping game one, the T-Bird Softball team exploded for 15 runs in game two to split the doubleheader on the road against the Jayhawk Conference's leading offensive club in the KCK Blue Devils. Cloud lost game one 9-7 and won game two 15-1 in five innings.
Cloud sent twelve batters to the plate in the first inning of game two and used a grand slam off the bat of freshman Lauryn Catron to set the tone. Cloud would score eight runs in the rally and take a commanding lead.
The T-Birds didn't stop there. They would add three runs in the third and fourth innings to extend their lead. Ann Flach hit a two run home run in the 4th.
Freshman pitcher Bayleigh Cope was strong once again going all five innings and allowing just one run and four hits. KCK entered the game with a batting average of .417. Cope moves to 4-4 on the season.
Cloud had a season high 18 hits in the game. Cope helped her cause by going 4-4 at the plate. She scored twice and drove in two. Jessie Dixon, Bailee Larson, and Leslie Schuetz each had three hits in the game.
The T-Birds jumped on KCK early in game one as well. However, they were unable to hang on to the early lead as the Blue Devils used a four run sixth to break a 5-5 tie. Cloud rallied in the seventh but fell just short losing 9-7.
Lexi Duhrkop took the loss. She allowed just five hits but was the victim of three T-Bird errors in the game.
Jaycee Worrell, Samantha Shafer, and Cope all had two hits. Bailee Larson hit her second home run of the season in the game.
Cloud now returns home this weekend after playing ten straight on the road. They will host Johnson County on Friday at 2/4pm.
