Box Score 2 Concordia, KS- Errors proved costly for the T-Birds as they were swept in a conference doubleheader against Cowley on Tuesday afternoon. Cloud lost game one 3-1 and fell 10-4 in game two.
Bayleigh Cope threw a complete game four hitter and didn't allow an earned run in game one, but picked up the loss. She also didn't issue a walk. Three Cloud County errors gave Cowley all they needed to get the game one victory.
The T-Birds had trouble with the Cowley lefthander Jolana Shield. Shield held the T-Birds to just three hits on the day.
The back breaker for Cloud came in the fifth inning. Cowley's speed caused havoc for the T-Birds as the top two hitters in the order reached base and scored on T-Bird errors.
Cloud would get one back in the fifth when Lauryn Catron led off with a single and later scored on a single by Jaycee Worrell. With the tying run at first Cope drove a ball to the fence in left center field, but the Cowley outfielder tracked it down ending the T-Birds last comeback threat.
Cowley scored early and often in game two. The Tigers scored three runs in the second inning and added a single run in the third and two more in the fourth to jump out to a 6-1 lead. They would then get a two-run line drive home run in the fifth to make it 8-1.
The T-Birds would get back within five with two runs in the sixth. Mikayla Booth burned the Cowley rightfielder for an RBI double to make it 8-3.
Cowley came right back with a two run answer in the seventh to seal it.
Lexi Durhkop took the loss in a complete game effort.
The T-Birds will now head back on the road for six in a row. The will play at Brown Mackie on Friday at 2:00 and 4:00 pm.
