Box Score 2 Highland, KS- The Cloud County Softball team dropped a doubleheader at NJCAA #11 Highland on Wednesday afternoon. Cloud gave up just nine hits all day but the Scotties made the most of them with 7-1 and 2-0 wins.
Samantha Shafer hit a third inning solo home run in game one but it was all the offense Cloud County could find. Meanwhile, Highland took advantage of four Cloud County errors and jumped on the T-Birds from the start.
The Scotties scored three in the first and two runs in the third and fourth innings to jump out early. Cloud County pitcher Lexi Duhrkop allowed just five hits in six innings of work. Of her seven runs allowed, just two were earned. She walked four and struck out one.
Bayleigh Cope threw her second straight gem in game two. The Freshman righthander went the distance in the tough luck loss allowing just four hits over six innings.
Cloud went toe-to-toe with the Scotties in a game that would remain a scoreless tie into the fifth inning. In the fifth inning Highland pushed their first run across and added a second run in the sixth. Cloud's only scoring threat came in the fifth when Ann Flach and Leslie Schuetz ripped back to back one out singles. They were stranded and Highland preserved the shutout winning 2-0.
Schuetz was 2-2 in the game.
The T-Birds will take this weekend off before heading back on the road on Tuesday, March 29th when they will head to Independence.
