Thunderbirds Split Doubleheader with Allen

Concordia, KS- The Cloud County Thunderbirds battled with a strong Allen Community College team on Saturday earning a double header split. Cloud fell 5-4 in extra innings of game one but rolled in game two, winning by the score of 6-1. 

The T-Birds struck first in game one as they scored four runs in the bottom of the second to go ahead early. Lexi Duhrkop led off the inning with a solo blast to right field. Allison Rassette had a big two out RBI double in the inning as well. Cloud did not score again after the second inning.

Allen added one in the third and three in the fifth to tie it up and push extra innings. They would then score one run on a T-Bird error in the top of the eighth. Cloud put two runners on in the bottom of the inning but couldn't push one across. Allen won game one 5-4. 

Bailee Larson was 3-4 in the game. 

Duhrkop took the loss going all 8 innings. She allowed 5 runs, 3 earned. She struck out 5 and walked 1. 

It was the third extra inning contest so far this season. Cloud has dropped all three extra inning games. 

Cloud jumped out to an early 2-1 lead in the second game of the day and that was all Freshman righthander Bayleigh Cope would need. 

Cope helped her own cause with a three run shot in the fifth inning to put Cloud County ahead 5-1. Lauryn Catron ripped an RBI triple in the sixth scoring Samantha Shafer to push the lead to 6-1. 

The T-Birds held on to salvage a split and snap an eight game skid. 

Cope led Cloud in the win tossing 7 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits and striking out 4. She was also 2-3 with 4 runs batted in.

Cloud moved to 4-8 on the young season. Allen is now 16-10. The T-Birds will now hit the road for the next ten games. They will play at Highland on Wednesday.
