Box Score 2 Concordia, KS- The Cloud County softball team dropped a conference doubleheader to Neosho on Friday afternoon by the scores of 5-4 and 8-4.
The T-Birds and Panthers battled for 11 innings in the opener but Neosho held on to win 5-4.
Both teams remained scoreless into the 4th inning when Cloud pitcher Lexi Duhrkop helped her own cause by lacing a leadoff double. Erin King sacrificed Duhrkop to third and she scored on a ground ball by Lauryn Catron. Cloud took an early 1-0 lead.
Duhrkop was solid early on holding Neosho scoreless into the 5th. She did not allow an earned run until the 10th inning.
Cloud and Neosho went into extra innings tied at one. Following two empty frames, they went into tiebreaker rules in the 10th. Starting the inning with a runner at second base Neosho would plate three runs in the top of the 10th to take a 4-1 lead. The T-Birds then answered by sending eight batters to the plate in the bottom of the 10th and tied it at four. Jaycee Worrell, Ann Flach, Bayleigh Cope, and Alison Rassette all singled in the inning.
Neosho then scored one in the 11th on a sac fly to left field. Jaycee Worrell had moved from second base to left field. She made the play and threw a strike to home, as the eventual winning run slid in safe for the Panthers.
Cloud tried to rally in the bottom but two outstanding defensive plays by Neosho killed the rally and ended the game 5-4 in 11 innings.
Duhrkop pitched 10 innings. She allowed just one earned run and scattered 7 hits. Bayleigh Cope came on in the 11th and took the loss.
Worell was 4-6 in the game.
Neosho took game two from the T-Birds 8-4.
The Panthers kept the momentum from game one going as they jumped on top 4-0 in the top of the 1st inning.
Cloud earned single runs in the second and third innings to inch closer but Neosho extended the lead with two more in the 5th.
Cope took the loss in game two. She surrendered 8 runs on 14 hits. She struck out 6 and walked 2.
Samantha Shafer went 3-3 at the plate in game two.
Cloud falls to 3-7 on the year. They will play Allen Community College on Saturday at 12/2pm in Concordia.
