Box Score 2 Lindsborg, KS- The Cloud County Softball team got off to a good start on Friday with a sweep of Bethany College. The T-Birds won game one 11-3 and finished the sweep with a 10-0 shutout in game two.
Game 1: Cloud County 11 Bethany 3
The T-Birds wasted no time in game one as they put up four runs in the first frame. Freshman Samantha Shafer opened her collegiate career with a triple and the rout was on. Leslie Shuetz, Bailee Larson, and Lexi Duhrkop all doubled in the inning as well.
Cloud would add a run in the second and exploded for five in the third thanks to three Bethany errors.
Duhrkop tossed a complete game for Cloud. The sophomore scattered 5 hits over 5 innings, allowing 3 earned runs.
Shafer went 3-4 in game one with a triple and also stole two bases.
Shuetz was 2-4 and drove in three.
Game 2: Cloud County 10 Bethany 0
Cloud busted down the door again in game two as Ann Flach hit a bases clearing double to open the game in the first and give Cloud a 3-0 lead early on.
The T-Birds added two more in the second and five in the fourth. They sent nine batters to the plate in the fourth and got doubles from Mikayla Booth and Bayleigh Cope. The big blow came on a two RBI triple from Lauryn Catron.
Bayleigh Cope was very efficient in her first career outing. She faced just three batters over the minimum in route to a complete game three hit shutout. She struck out three and walked two.
Shafer, Jaycee Worrell, and Cope all had two hits in the 10-0 win.
The T-Birds are now 2-0 on the young season.
Cloud will now prepare for a challenging weekend as they will host their annual Spring Class on March 5th and 6th. The T-Birds will play Riverland and Iowa Western on Saturday before taking on Iowa Central and Barton County on Sunday. Nine teams will participate in the tournament.
