Box Score CONCORDIA, Kansas- Coming off a pair of disappointing losses, the Cloud County Community College volleyball team were hungry to right the ship Monday night when it played host to Pratt Community College.
Playing inside Arley Bryant Gymnasium for the first time in 16 days, the T-Birds made the wait worth it as they cruised past the Beavers in straights: 26-24, 25-19 and 25-19.
The win snapped a rough stretch that saw Cloud County (11-12 overall, 5-6 KJCCC) lose two straight and four of its past five. The victory alway pushed the T-Brds' record at home this season back to .500 at 3-3.
Pratt Community College (7-21 overall, 1-9 KJCCC) made the T-Birds work for the sweep, though, as the Beavers held leads in all three sets Monday. They jumped out to a 11-7 lead in the first set, and led by as many as seven points at 19-12, before Cloud started clicking.
Sparked by one of freshman Elizabeth Nobert's team-high eight kills, Cloud County went on a 9-2 run, capped by a block from redshirt freshman Drew Mann, to pull even at 21-21. The T-Birds rode the momentum wave to a 26-24 win in the first set. Mann and freshman Katelyn Ruth each finished with six kills to help carry the load offensively.
The T-Birds again used a 9-2 run in the second set to create seperation, turning an early 8-8 tie into a 17-10 lead. Pratt would battle back to within four at 23-19, but failed to inch any closer.
Cloud, after allowing five aces through the first two sets, neutralized Pratt's serve in the third as it didn't allow an ace the rest of the way, cruising to a 25-19 win to complete the sweep.
Defensively, the T-Birds had one of their best nights of the season at the front of the night as they finished with five solo blocks and 13 block assists, led by sophomore outside hitter Cara Flach with one solo block and four block assists.
Flach, who has been primarily used as a setter, was all over the floor Monday as she added five kills, two aces, and a team-high 18 assists. Freshman Christen Greving added 10 assists and a team-high five aces.
The T-Birds will look to carry the momentum from Monday's win back on the road with them Wednesday as they travel to face Hutchinson Community College at 6:30 p.m.
